Are you a 16-18-year old high school student who needs work experience and job training?
The Youth Employment Services (YES) Program is a job training program for low-income or high-risk youth ages 16 to 18 years old. Teens who participate in the program gain valuable work experience, develop job skills, and build their self-esteem and confidence.
Pay Rate: $15.00/hour
This position may work up to 15 hours per week from March 7, 2022, to April 29, 2022, at various locations in Santa Clarita such as youth recreation programs and select local businesses.
Eligibility Criteria for YES Program:
- Must be 16 to 18 years old and still in high school
- Must reside in the City of Santa Clarita
- Applicants must meet one of the below criteria to be eligible for the YES Program:
o Low Income: For example: Receives a modified lunch program
o High-Risk: For example: Low grades; on probation; recovering from addiction; in the DCFS or foster care system; have gang affiliation; and/or behavioral issues
- If you have already participated in the YES program, you are not eligible to reapply
- Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing
- Ability to understand and carry out verbal and written instructions
- Ability to observe safety principles and work in a safe manner
- Strong team player that is able to work both independently and as part of a work group; trustworthy and responsible
- Ability to lift, drag, and push files, paper, and equipment (up to 25 lbs.) is required occasionally

NOTE: Students under 18 years old must have a minimum of 2.0 GPA to be issued a work permit by the school.

APPLICATION PROCESS:

Final candidates for the Youth Employment Services (YES) Program will require a negative TB test result within the last two years to be cleared to work. It is important to note that current CDC guidelines do not allow for a TB test to be given within 28 days of receiving the first or second dose of a COVID-19 vaccine.
All offers of employment with the City of Santa Clarita are made contingent upon receipt of proof of legal right to work in the United States and successful completion of a post-offer pre-employment physical which may include a drug screen and Physical Abilities Test, negative TB test on file, and Department of Justice fingerprinting. Criminal offender information will be reviewed on an ongoing basis. The City uses the E-Verify program to electronically confirm work authorization of newly hired employees.
In compliance with the California law, positions working with children are required to be mandated child abuse reporters. A mandated reporter is an individual who is obligated by law to report suspected cases of child abuse and neglect.
As a City of Santa Clarita public employee, you may be called upon to work as a Disaster Service Worker (DSW) in the event of an emergency (in accordance with Government Code §§ 3100-3109). Before entering upon the duties of employment, all public employees, except those excluded by law, take and subscribe to an oath or affirmation set forth in the California Constitution, declaring them to be Disaster Service Workers in time of need.
In addition, part-time, temporary, and seasonal (PTS) employees may be required to participate in the DMV Employer Pull-Notice Program. This program authorizes the City to receive a driver record report upon enrollment and during employment.
PTS workers are at-will. Generally, PTS employees are limited to no more than 999 hours.
